A Handbook of Anatomy, 2018 draws reference from the photographic plates within Arthur Thomson’s, 1915 ‘Handbook of Anatomy for Art Students’. Conway created this series of drawings during her research into the theatricality of the staged figure as apart of her graduate diploma coursework. The series consists of 46 drawings and a bound, hardcover book. Using traditional life drawing methods the open pages of the book are transcribed into a reduced, linear composition, leaving blank space in place of the original text. The simplification of the figurative forms embody staged life and the presence of absence between the subject and representations of it.
